I'm addicted to saving money. And honestly, that's the number one reason how I hit 100k by 24. So here are the four things I would do the moment I turned 18. First, open a Roth IRA. At 18, you have something money can't buy. And that's literally time your money grows tax free and compound interest literally does the work for you. Even $50 a month at 18 could turn into so much, you'd be surprised. Second is get a credit card, but treat it like a debit card, only spend on it what you actually have, paid off in full every single month and never carry a balance. Your credit score matters way more than you think. Apartments, car loans, or even a mortgage one day are building it now so that when you're in your mid-20s, you're already in a really good place. Third is open a High Yield Savings Account. A regular bank account is not doing anything for you. High Yield Savings Account is literally paying you 4 to 5% by just having your money in there. That's where my emergency fund is and what I'm not investing in actually just sits there. Fourth is open a brokerage account. Once your Roth IRA is funded, this is where you keep going. It has no contribution limits and no limits on when you can take your money out. You don't have to pick stocks or anything, just pick index funds and let it do its thing. And if in 2026 you still don't have a High Yield Savings Account, just comment Savings and I'll send you my favorite one.
