Nord Express
Chemin de Fer du Nord · 1927
Analysis
A train and converging lines turn a rail service into an image of speed.
“NORD EXPRESS”
perspectivediagonal compositiongeometric abstraction
Why it worked
The rails and wires pull the eye toward the destination. The enlarged locomotive gives the service weight while the diagonal forms suggest motion.
Lesson
Use direction and perspective to express speed in a still image.
